Sex, death and power. That’s what drives my work, and my life. All of my artworks have these elements incorporated into them, binding like sinew the paint, like blood, to the stone to the canvas to the bark, like rope. Until it fails, like rope, like breath, like life. "Spiral Castle" is about me claiming space and belonging in martial arts and mountaineering. I have given and have been given a lot by these two exacting practices over two decades. However, being a brown woman I have been actively told I don't belong in either sphere. It is my hope that by seeing ourselves on our mountains and dojos in my art, the viewers share and connect our journey of love and connection with each other.
