Artist Statement:
When I captured the self-portait of myself a few summers ago, I found myself going through numerous emotions during this time; mostly hopefulness, but also lows. I was reminded of how intense life can feel and how it all stems from us trying to cope with our existence. At some point we never necessarily existed, then out of nowhere we were created from the same thing that created the heavens and earths. I believe this is why I am so drawn to land. From every avenue in my mind I think about how rich the soil is that I step foot on every single day. I think about the stories and histories it holds. I am made up of it and will be returned back to it some day; this is why I titled it, A Compilation of Everything I Once Was, Am, and Will Leave After.
